IPods still rule mp3 world

For several years, the iPod has been the electronic gadget to have. But is it still the most popular, or are other mp3 players gaining ground?

“I think iPods are still the must have item, but I think that other mp3 players are becoming more popular,” said Winfield sophomore Roy Honaker. “It used to be that you never saw anything but an iPod when you walked down the hallway, but now you see more of a mixture.”

As a free application, the iPod gives customers an entire music library stored on their computers. This allows them to play music, burn CDs and “rip” music from existing disks. IPods can also transfer photos, calendar dates, videos and games.

“IPod is definitely still the must-have brand,” said Poca senior Robert Rucker. “The iTunes music software is the easiest mp3 program to use.

“Plus, the warranty and the registration are amazing. If you were to get your iPod stolen, the company can track it down through your computer software that has its own special code. Therefore, iPods are worth the extra money in the end.”

Each new iPod generation usually has more features and refinements while typically being smaller and lighter than the previous one. Another major feature is that you can use iPods almost anywhere. Apple makes armbands for when you are working out and hook-ups so you can listen to them in the car. Later this year, four major airlines plan to have iPod hook-ups on their aircrafts.

“The accessories that Apple sells to go along with iPods are awesome,” said Poca junior Josh Jenkins. “My armband is especially great for when I lift in the weight room. It makes it easier to work out and listen to my music.”

“My older sister drives a Scion tC and absolutely loves the iPod hookup inside. It allows her to listen to the variety of music that she prefers and keeps her attention on the road instead of what is playing on the radio,” said Brynnae White, a sophomore at Poca.

So it appears that among teens, the iPod is still the most popular but not just because of its brand name. Teens prefer it for its size, dependability and the convenience that comes with owning one.
